Planting for a Greener Future: TVCMALL's Desert Greening Initiative in Minqin, Gansu

With this belief in mind, TVCMALL recently took part in a desert greening and tree-planting initiative in Minqin, Gansu Province. Located in Northwest China, Minqin is widely recognized as an important area in China's long-term desertification control efforts.

 

For our team, this was more than a volunteer activity. It was a hands-on experience that brought us closer to the land, the challenge of ecological protection, and the value of shared responsibility.

 

Why Minqin Matters

 

Minqin is more than a location for tree planting. It is a vital ecological barrier in Northwest China.

 

Located in the lower reaches of the Shiyang River Basin, Minqin sits between the Tengger Desert and the Badain Jaran Desert, two of China's major desert areas. Because of this unique geographical position, protecting Minqin is closely connected to preventing further desert expansion and safeguarding the ecological security of the surrounding region.

 

 

Over the years, continuous efforts in afforestation, water conservation, and desertification control have helped strengthen the local ecological barrier. Every tree planted, every conservation project, and every act of protection contributes to the long-term stability of this fragile but important landscape.

 

For TVCMALL, joining this initiative was a meaningful way to better understand the value of environmental protection and contribute to a cause that requires persistence, cooperation, and long-term commitment.

 

From Participation to Action

 

Upon arrival at the activity site, TVCMALL team members joined local organizers and volunteers for group coordination before entering the desert planting area.

 

The work was practical and physically demanding. Participants helped dig planting pits, prepare the soil, place young saplings, transport supplies, and support the watering process. Walking across soft sand under the strong Northwest sun required far more effort than many had expected.

 

 

For a team that is more familiar with office work, digital communication, and business operations, this experience brought a new perspective. It allowed everyone to see that environmental protection is not an abstract concept. It is built through repeated actions, patient work, and long-term dedication.

 

Watering the Saplings: Helping New Life Take Root

 

One of the most important parts of the day took place in the afternoon, when the water truck arrived and volunteers began watering the newly planted saplings.

 

In desert greening work, watering is not simply a final step. It is essential to helping young trees survive and take root in a dry environment. Each sapling needed to be watered deeply and thoroughly, allowing moisture to reach the roots and support future growth.

 

The task was not easy. The water hoses weighed around 7 to 8 jin, and carrying them across the sand required strength, coordination, and patience. Despite the heat and physical challenge, TVCMALL team members worked together without hesitation. Some carried the hoses, some guided the water flow, and others supported the team by passing supplies and coordinating the process.

 

This moment reflected the true spirit of the activity: meaningful contribution often comes from steady, hands-on effort.

 

Voices from the Team: What This Journey Meant to Us

 

 

For TVCMALL team members, the Minqin journey was a direct experience of distance, environment, and responsibility.

 

For Seven, Content Team Supervisor of TVCMALL's Brand Marketing Department, the 2,800-kilometer journey from Shenzhen to Minqin made the activity especially meaningful. It was her first time visiting Minqin, and being there in person helped her better understand the real effort behind every tree planted.

 

For Rui, from TVCMALL's Finance Department and President of the TVCMALL Mountaineering Association, the activity was closely connected to his love for nature. Years of outdoor experience have made him value green land and clean water even more. Planting trees in Minqin strengthened his belief that appreciating nature also means taking action to protect it.

 

For Ryan, Senior Photographer of TVCMALL's Brand Department, this was more than a filming task. After planting a tree himself, he gained a deeper respect for those who work on desertification control. The wind, heat, and sand made the challenge real, while the young saplings made the hope even more visible.

 

Their experiences shared one message: responsibility becomes more meaningful when it is put into action.

 

The Strength of Teamwork

 

Teamwork was one of the most memorable parts of the activity.

 

Many of the volunteers were women, and their cooperation became one of the most powerful scenes of the day. Although the work was physically demanding, they supported one another through an efficient relay system.

 

 

Supplies were passed from person to person. Tools, water, and materials were moved across the sand through shared effort. Everyone contributed in their own way, proving that strength is not only about physical power. It is also about cooperation, resilience, and the determination to complete a shared mission.

 

This collective effort reflected the values TVCMALL has always believed in: responsibility, teamwork, and the willingness to contribute beyond individual roles.
