With Samsung A-series smartphones, you don’t have to blow your budget to buy a quality phone. These midrange smartphones are affordable while still offering an impressive list of fun features. In this article, we compare the new Samsung Galaxy A55 vs the A54, and we also examine the compatibility of their accessories, to help you decide if you should upgrade.
Budget-minded smartphone users have plenty of reasons to love Samsung’s A-series phones. Their design balances more than a few indulgent features with affordability, making for a fun smartphone experience without the guilt.
With the release of the lineup’s most recent device, the Samsung Galaxy A55, you may be wondering if you should upgrade. In this article, we compare the new Samsung Galaxy A55 vs A54, which was released one year ago.
Samsung released the Galaxy A55 at the price of £439 into the U.K. market on March 20th. Australians could purchase the A55 five days later, on March 25th, for AU$ 699. Indians enjoyed the earliest Samsung Galaxy A55 release date on March 14th. The Samsung A55 5G price in India is Rs. 39,999.00.
Americans, however, are out of luck when it comes to getting their hands on the Galaxy A55. Samsung has announced that they will not be releasing the A55 into the U.S., instead pushing the pricier Galaxy S22 as the budget-friendly option for Americans.
The Samsung A55 5G specs include some impressive upgrades. Most notably, the A55 will include the Knox Vault security system, which was previously only available on the S-series lineup.
Essentially, the Knox Vault is a separate operating system that runs independently from Android. Locked away within the Knox Vault is your phone’s most sensitive information, including passwords, security keys, and biometric information.
The Knox Vault effectively separates this sensitive information from apps and unscrupulous hackers. It’s a significant upgrade for a mid-range phone, considering that over 10 billion personal records are compromised each year.
If you use your phone for payments, the addition of the Knox Vault should make you consider the upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy A55. However, it’s just as easy to carry your phone in a Galaxy A55 5g leather case that also stores your credit cards.
Enhanced security features aside, there are more differences between the Samsung Galaxy A55 vs. A54. Their similarities, however, may the deciding factor that leads you to forego the upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy A55 and just stick with the A54, instead.
The Samsung Galaxy A55 feels like a higher-end phone compared to the A54. With a flat frame and rounded edges, the A55 looks more like its flagship sibling. And unlike the plastic A54, the Galaxy A5 has a metal casing.
Its display screen is also more durable because it’s reinforced with Gorilla Glass Victus, which its manufacturer, Corning, describes as “the toughest Gorilla Glass yet.” All the same, don’t underestimate the importance of a quality Galaxy A55 5g tempered glass.
Samsung also improved the Galaxy A55’s hardware. If you find the A54’s performance too slow, you may want to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy A55, which comes with the next generation of Exynos processors, the Exynos 1480.
While the Exynos line of processors hasn’t been a stellar feature of the Galaxy A-series phones, Samsung also upgraded the A55’s memory, which should translate into faster processing speeds. The Samsung Galaxy A55 specs include up to 12 GB of RAM, whereas the A54 comes with up to 8 GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a 6.6-inch display, which is slightly larger than the A54's at 6.6 inches. The A55 also has Vision Booster, which promises to improve the screen’s readability in a variety of lighting conditions.
The A55 weighs in at 213 grams, slightly heavier than the A54 at 202 grams. Of course the padded weight is due to the much-improved metal frame. While metal frames are more durable, they do scratch easily. So, make sure you protect your new phone with Galaxy A55 5g magnetic case.
For all these upgrades, the Samsung A55 is similar in at least one all-important feature. The cameras on both smartphones are nearly identical, with a 50 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide, and 5 MP macro. The front camera on both phones is 32 MP.
The standout camera feature of the Samsung Galaxy A55 specs is new AI features that suggest changes or allow for expert-level edits. The Samsung Galaxy A55 also features Nightography, a set of enhancements that make nighttime photography clearer and with less noise.
Anytime you invest in a new phone, you want to protect your investment with a cell phone case and screen protector. However, you also want to save money whenever possible. So, you may be wondering if you can continue to use phone accessories from your old Samsung Galaxy A54 when you upgrade to the A55.
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Accessories from last year’s Galaxy A54 are not compatible with the new Galaxy A55. The screen size on the A55 is five millimeters larger, and the overall size of the phone is slightly larger. While the increased size is barely perceptible at less than three millimeters, it does mean the A55 requires a different case and screen protector.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A55 has some important upgrades over the A54. If photography is important to you, though, you may not consider it worthwhile to invest in the A55. You don’t have to go broke if you do decide to spring for the Samsung Galaxy A55.
