Are Rumors About the iPhone 16 Legit?

Recap of the iPhone 15 Changes

Less than five months ago, the iPhone 15 was released. It came with some big changes, the biggest of which was its charging port. Apple famously doesn’t play well with other tech brands and stubbornly stuck with its proprietary Lightning port. It took a new EU law aimed at slashing waste to prod Apple to switch its charging port to the soon-to-be universal USB-C charging port.

But that wasn’t the only change. In addition to its charging port, the iPhone 15 had these other changes:

New iPhone 16

Clearly, the iPhone 15 has some awesome new features. It begs the question, however, how can Apple top it? Fortunately, Apple never has difficulty outdoing itself.

iPhone 16 Release Date

As we know from prior years, the new iPhone’s release date follows a predictable pattern. Generally, new iPhones are released in September. And if previous release patterns hold true, we can expect Apple to announce the iPhone 16 on September 10^th, with preorders starting shortly after.

iPhone 16 Price

Apple didn’t raise the price of the iPhone 15 despite higher production costs. Likely, the tech giant was keen to maintain sales despite a much-feared recession. The recession never showed up in 2023, but the economy is still uncertain heading into 2024. For that reason, most experts expect mild price increases on the iPhone 16, if the price increases at all.

Capture Button

Taking a photo with a smartphone has always felt like, well, taking a photo with a smartphone. You hold the camera, then you sort of maneuver your thumb or forefinger (neither really feels natural) to the screen and press in just the right spot, hopefully before the scene changes.

These rumors are likely true because, as it turns out, Apple needed to squeeze some super-duty camera hardware into the chassis of the iPhone 16, which brings us to our next rumor.

Camera

We expect the iPhone 16 Pro models will have an impressive 48MP camera with an ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to have 5x optical zoom.

With this next iteration of the iPhone, Apple is trying to make the iPhone 16 Pro Max a must-have upsell from the iPhone 16 Pro. So, we expect the iPhone 16 Pro Max to have an even more powerful optical zoom lens.

Spatial Video Recording

We expect (and hope) that spatial video recording will be available on all iPhone 16 models. This advanced recording feature means that the iPhone can record in 3D, which means the recordings can be transferred to Apple’s VR headset, Apple Vision Pro. Basically, you can record your best bud’s wedding, and he and his beloved can relive it in Apple Vision Pro in 3D on their first anniversary. Spatial videos played on smartphones will still look like any other 2D video.
